The Cory Alan Marketing Blog

Cory Alan in Business SuitBorn in Los Angeles, I grew up in suburban Southern California where I reside today. My early influences include stories of my great-grandfather who worked for the city of Los Angeles in the Planning Department while managing his own small business producing wine, well supporting his family of 17. My own father was a successful business owner and to this day I still draw on the business advice and truisms he sprinkled throughout my childhood.

At an early age I was already working and enjoying benefits and more disposable income than my teenage peers. Realizing the success my father was enjoying, I began to get involved in real estate and with his unwavering support and guidance I defined my own niche to be my own boss and increase my earning potential.

I have been a successful real estate agent for over 29 years working in many aspects of the industry as well as owning and managing apartment buildings. My business flourished as I worked with Savings and Loans and insurance companies to oversee and market their properties. As a top sales representative for Freddie Mac, I managed over 50 properties selling 10 to 12 each month. This required a full-time staff, large overhead and very long work hours; a perfect combination for burn out.

Feeling exhausted and with my 40th birthday fast approaching I decided it was time to make a change. I shifted my focus to health and wellness and began a new routine of attending conferences, physical exercise and personal trainer sessions. Soon I discovered a love for tennis and joined a local tennis social club, began following the pro-circuit tour and played the sport as often as possible. Tennis opened a new door for me. I volunteered frequently for my league, began playing in statewide amateur events soon followed by national events and now I am proud to hold the office of President for the largest social tennis league in the country. I find it rewarding to give back to the sport that has and continues to bring me so much pleasure.

During this time I discovered Network Marketing. I was very attracted to the independence it promised and the minimal overhead required. I jumped in and began making common mistakes, which was very frustrating. Fortunately, I found a solid, straightforward company that offered integrity and a quality product.

The product was in the health and wellness field and complimented my new found interest and commitment to overall personal health. Believing in the product and the company, I was able to build a team of over 250 affiliates and a retail base that exceeded over 9,000 customers. I was active in that company for a couple of years until my life took off into different directions.

In the early part of 2002, my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and I made the decision to have her live with me. As my mother’s health slowly began to decline it became apparent that I would need to remodel the house to accommodate her physical needs as well as hire additional care for her while I was working. I became pressed by the high cost of care needed to allow me to be out in the workplace. The justification for this became more difficult with the shrinking real estate market and I knew that a home-based business was the best option to increase my income while curbing the increasing care expenses. I decided to put real estate on hold and focus on building income streams from my home office.

I researched available opportunities while reconnecting with many of my colleagues I had worked with earlier. It was obvious that Network Marketing was the perfect solution allowing me to generate income from home and at the same time be present to care for my mother. I was pleased to find a company that I believed in and one that I was willing to invest my time and effort.

Working a conventional lead system, I was able to recruit a small group of 42 distributors in just my first month. While working with them and helping to get their businesses moving, I was quickly reminded of the main obstacle for most people when starting a new Networking Marketing Business. Leads. Both the lack of leads and the cost to buy leads of any decent quality. This realization inspired me to become a guide and share the wisdom my father and subsequent mentors had ingrained in me; be a good teacher first and a salesman second, focus on the success of others, act with consistency and speak only the truth.

I believe my success is fully contingent upon yours!
